Function Bikes began in 2006 as a company called Inertia Project. Aaron Bland, a mechanical engineer and downhill bike racer, decided to design and have a small production run of CNC machined lowering crowns for 888 forks made as a side project to help satisfy his desire to design bicycle parts.

Function Bikes was started with a simple premise - To design performance parts based on sound engineering principles for gravity racing and mountain biking that don't cost an arm and a leg. You may have guessed that Function was started by a couple of guys who love to ride, but you may be surprised to know that these guys also have an impressive background in engineering and design as well. Check out the bios below:
Aaron Bland (President and Lead Designer): A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aaron's passion for mountain biking goes way back to when he began racing cross country and DH as a teenager in Wisconsin. As he honed his technical know-how in college, he began dreaming up crazy ideas for applying his engineering prowess to mountain bikes. After college, Aaron landed a gig designing frames for PDC Racing in British Columbia and later attended the UBI bike school in Ashland, OR, which saw him take his bike design skills to the next level. Prior to founding Function Bikes, Aaron also worked on engineering projects from fire fighting equipment to race car parts and everything in between. He's stoked to finally have a company committed to bringing customers the sweetest performance parts and bikes you'll find, all made with pride right here in beautiful Oregon. Aaron's philosophy is to keep it clean, keep it simple, and avoid the marketing fluff to deliver only the stuff that works to our customers.
