Finally! Function Bikes paid a visit to our manufacturing partner today (5/12/08), and we are pleased to announce that our Inertia Project Race Crowns for 2004-07 Marzocchi 888 forks look fantastic and are ready to ship! The parts feature a beautiful bright dip black (upper and lower clamps) and titanium grey (steer tube, bar clamps, and top cap) anodized finish that really has to be seen in person to appreciate. All of the logos and markings are laser etched into the anodized coating to complete the super-trick look. The kit offers two position adjustable handlebar clamps with 45 or 55 mm offset. This kit will also update pre-2007 888s to modern geometry by steepening the headtube angle and lowering the ride height by 1-1/8". So, don't replace your trusty 888 when all you really need is a crown kit to maximize it's performance! Best of all, the kits are designed, engineered, and fabricated right here in Oregon, so you can support top quality manufacturing in the USA.

Another successful test with the Series A has been completed as Reed Doerr piloted the bike in the Pro class of the annual Ashland "Spring Thaw" men's downhill. The team came away not only impressed with another trouble-free weekend of practice and racing, but also with the level of competition coming from the local riders. Team Ashland brought quite a few riders and managed to take the overall win with local rider Jared Hobbs setting a new course record!
The weekend was also a success for local rider and long time Function Bikes supporter, Sabine Steichele, who took the win in the sport womens class in her first race ever! What's her secret? Well... she just so happens to be the main squeeze of Function Bikes president, Aaron Bland. Doesn't hurt to have a training partner like Aaron in your corner. Congratulations, Sabine!

Well, the first race of the season for the Series A and the Function team is officially under the belt! A killer time was had by all and the bike ran every practice session plus the races in the Expert and Semi-Pro categories with not a single mechanical problem. We met some great people and saw the pros showing us how it's done. Not necessarily a typical downhill course, the Sea Otter event still gave plenty of terrain (and jumps) to get a feel for how the suspension and bike was handling... Function Bikes President, Aaron Bland, had this to say: "The Sea Otter Classic was a great season opener for us to test the new frame design and warm up for the season. The course was a lot of fun, fast and flowing, with great jumps. Reed Doerr raced in the Semi Pro class and really loves the prototype. We plan to build him and our other riders full time test bikes asap." |

The Function Bikes Series A downhill race frame prototype is headed for its race debut at Sea Otter in Monterey, CA April 17-20. The prototype bike has been upgraded with a Fox 40 RC2 front fork and will be piloted by Function Bikes President Aaron Bland and amateur downhill racer Reed Doerr in the Expert and Semi-Pro classes of the SRAM Downhill race on Sunday. The event will provide the perfect opportunity for the company to evaluate the merits of its chromoly frame and high pivot rear suspension design. |
